MARC Baltimore Penn - Washington Union
 |
| The Baltimore-Washington MARC service, led by a leased Amtrak F59PHI, departs Baltimore Penn station. |
This MARC passenger activity is from Baltimore Penn Track 1 to Washington Union on the CSX sub.
Expect plenty of CSX freights, as well as the MARC service from Washington. Camden MARC is your first stop and you should some trams on the LRV tracks.
Nearing Washington, you'll pass through the Alexandria Junction, where the CSX line from the south joins. One run webTrainSim is sure the signals showed red but the MSTS Track Monitor showed a clear, so he shut his eyes and go through ok.
You'll probably be stopped at a red closer to Washington. Be patient - this is due to all the passenger services departing Union station.
webTrainSim has found the F59PHI to be the best loco for passenger stopping services, assuming yours is tuned according to the parameters in F59PHI engine upgrade.
For carriages, webTrainSim tried the METRA bi-levels but they were a bit long for the tight curves departing Baltimore so he chose the bi-level Sounder carriages.
The MARC service from Washington is headed by a METRA F40PH and is completely untypical but was used for recognition purposes during trialling.
It's been difficult to time some freight traffic running through the Mt Winan yard as you go by but you may catch something in the distance.
There are no loose consists in this activity. All trains are under the control of the MSTS AI dispatcher/traffic controller (Pan to trainsimmers drawing deep breaths and throwing hands up in the air in... anticipation?. Ed)
The screenshots below have been taken at various times of testing, thus the different weather conditions.
This activity has been packaged with Route Riter and is available from downloads.webdottrainsim.com.
All consists have been deliberately kept short so as not to cause problems fitting into various starting and ending sidings. So be careful if you're substituting your own rolling stock. The passenger consists are also short since all platforms, except Washington, won't hold more than a three or four carriages.
Rolling stock
All the following is available from Train-sim.com, unless otherwise stated.
Because there are no loose consists, you can use ConBuilder to substitute your choice of rolling stock.

| The Baltimore-Washington MARC service at Camden MARC station |
 |
| We won't take long to catch that LRV heading to the Baltimore Airport LRV terminal. |
 |
| Because we're on the CSX Sub, we have to expect to see plenty of their freights (seen from our leased Amtrak F59PHI). |
 |
| The driver, known only by the initials AI, pushes his Avalon Yards-bound CSX freight past us - he'll meet a red in a minute. So there. |
 |
| On another day, that AI chap in the CSX loco on the right passes webTrainSim's F59PHI commuter train and even gets the green ahead at Saint Denis. |
