Raildriver Engine - MSTS loco/trainset

The table below is a reference guide to match various MSTS locos/power cars/trainsets with Raildriver's engine type so the Raildriver control correctly works your loco/power car. In some instances modifications are required to the MSTS ENGine file (e.g. any ENGine using Series 7000-like controls). Sorry, steam fans, web•TrainSim hasn't tried any steam locos with the Raildriver cab control. The questions mark next to some locos/power cars indicate that web•TrainSim has yet to try, test or adapt the corresponding ENGine file (e.g., the Virgin Trains Voyager and similar power cars with a combined throttle-brake control).

Making a Raildriver engine file

You can add your favourite locos or power cars to the list of Raildriver Engines with a few simple steps. Before starting, however, you'll need to match your loco or power car to one of the default Raildriver Engine types.

As an example, let's do one for the TGV Duplex.

• From the table above, we see that the Duplex, after the required modifications, fits in with the Raildriver AcelaHHP
• Open Explorer and navigate to the engine sub-folder under C:\Program Files\PI Engineering\RailDriver\ (assuming you installed your Raildriver software in the default folder)
• Select acelahhl.eng and make a copy of this file in this same folder
• Rename Copy of acelahhl.eng to piduplex.eng, or a name of your choice
• Now open piduplex.eng in WordPad or your favourite Unicode text editor
• Edit the Name line at the top of the file so a meaningful name is displayed in the RD Manager's engine drop-down list; e.g., Name ( "TGV Duplex" )
• The following all need to correspond with the MSTS ENGine file and the easy way to do that is copy them from the ENGine file:
• BrakesEngineControllers
• EngineControllers
• Throttle
• Brake_Train
• Brake_Engine
• Save the file and start RD Manager to see if all is OK.

Note that RD Manager won't handle some MSTS add-on locos/power cars. A good example is the BB12000 which has 33 throttle positions. Because the Raildriver software is hard-coded to only recognise the default MSTS ENGine file setups, the RD Manager will hiccup when it tries to read a pixxxx.eng file that you might setup for the BB12000. You could change the BB12000's throttle notch setup but that would detract from Belphegor's unique sounds used in the BB12000.
