FS ETR 480 Pendolino

This is Salvatore Valese's new 3D model of the ETR480 Pendolino trainset, available for download from either Trenomania.it or AllFreeNet.it in FS_ETR480_Pendolino.zip (8.97Mb, 29-Jun-03). Look under the Locomotiva section.

The trainset has its own sound set installed from the installer program, as well as Kenji Kimura's cab, and is installed into folder FS-Etr480; there's a consist named Fs Etr 480 Pendolino.con placed in your Consists folder.

You need the Suono Italia sound set, it_sound.zip (1.6Mb. 02-May-02), from train-sim.com - well actually, only one WAV file, fischio2.wav so after downloading, just extract it to the Sounds sub-folder under FS-Etr480. Then you'll need to make a small edit to Fs_ETR480Eng.sms so load WordPad and away we go:

• either search or scroll down until you find the first line containing (there are a couple to do):
• "..\\..\\Suono_Italiano\\fischio2.wav"
• simply remove the path in front of this WAV file name:
• "fischio2.wav"
• while scrolling through, you can take out the folder path in front of the x_couple_auto, x_uncouple_auto and a_e_comp1 WAV files (these WAVs are in MSTS global sounds folder so it knows all about them).
• when you save this SMS file and then test the two power cars Fs Etr480 Pendolino and Fs Etr480 BAC2 in ConBuilder, you'll find there's a missing WAV named Autotestkvb.wav - it's not around anywhere but MSTS will be ok.

EU11-003 cab

In the cab of Italian Railways E405.003 (formerly Polish Railways PKP EU11-003) on test at San Bovio on the Via Trenomania AV route.

The EU11-003 electric loco by Richard De Stefani is available from AllFreeNet.it under Locomotiva (the file you'll download will be EU11_003.zip, 1.78Mb, 29-Jun-03).

The readme for this loco suggests the Cabina di collaudo generale cab by Renzo Omodei and it's also available from AllFreeNet.it in the Cabina section (the file will be CAB-Collaudo.zip, 581kb, 25-Dec-02).

Once web•TrainSim saw a screenshot of this cab, he decided it would have a wide use in any loco whose author only used the Acela cab because of all the "extras". So he made a sub-folder named Collaudi under Common.Cab and extracted the files to there. However that meant a few changes to Collaudi.cvf:

Crank up WordPad and load Collaudi.cvf - look for any lines containing anything like this:

../../CAB-Collaudo/Collaudo.ace

and change the folder path so they look like this:

"..\\..\\Common.Cab\\Collaudi\\Collaudo.ace"

Note web•TrainSim has also put in opening and closing quotes. Carry on through the CVF, keeping an eye out for ACE files whose path needs changing.

After that little job, save and then load the EU11's ENGine file, EU11_003.eng in its folder, EU11_003. Look for:

CabView ( EU11.cvf )

and change it to read as:

CabView ( "..\\..\\Common.Cab\\Collaudi\\Collaudi.cvf" )

Save and exit WordPad - you should be able to now enjoy the EU11 loco in one of your consists.

FS D445 sounds

The D445 diesel loco is available from Trenomania.it in FS_D445_XMPR_pack.zip (1.3Mb, 12-Sep-02) with its own installer. You'll need to download separately a cab for this loco - it's also available from Trenomania.it (FS_D_445_CAB.zip, 1.14Mb, 29-Jul-02) and web•TrainSim simply extracted the files to the CabView sub-folder under the D445's folder, FS_D445_XMPR_PACK.

At this stage if you test the loco in ConBuilder you'll be warned of two missing sound files, fischio2.wav, in both SMS files - the same situation as the FS ETR 480 Pendolino above. So assuming you've got the Suono Italiano sound set, the simplest method is to copy fischio.wav and fischio2.wav into the Sound folder of the D445 and do the same small edits to D445eng.sms and D445cab.sms as for the ETR480 Pendolino.

As you're scrolling through the SMS files, you can also take out the folder paths in front of WAV file names beginning with x_couple or a_d_comp (these WAVs are stored in the MSTS global sounds folder and MSTS knows where they are).
