Line news September, 2004

• <30-Sep-04>: A quiet day but with a valuable contribution from Ole Petter Ingebrigtsen, namely an update to speed limits and a change to metric measurment for the original Europe2 - Innsbruck to St. Anton route, eur2upd.zip (682kb, 29-Sep-04). On the Australian MSTS scene, T-class loco No. 387 has been repainted into CFCLA livery, AU_cfclaT_MSTS1_Setup.exe (8.64Mb, 29-Sep-04) - it's available from Australian Add-ons for MSTS.

• <29-Sep-04>: At Train-sim.com Dick Cowen has a reskinning kit for heavyweight carriages, brtkit23.zip (9.8Mb, 28-Sep-04), and a Chessie GP40-2 loco, ch-gp402.zip (4.4Mb, 29-Sep-04), Ted Curphey has another set of freight wagons, Wood Chip Gondolas, bn_wchip.zip (1.4Mb, 28-Sep-04), and there's a schematic map of the Port Ogden and Northern 9 route, 9ponmap.zip (81kb, 28-Sep-04). Bruno Astorg continues to release updates, the latest being two R.I.O. 79 sets, one in S.N.C.F. Ile de France livery, rio79_sncf.exe (22.7Mb), the other in S.N.C.F. Transilien livery, rio79_transilien.exe (27.6Mb). Both sets include a cab for reverse driving but check here for consist files and loco requirements. MapleLeaf Tracks have made available a free Canadian National SD60F loco (3.66Mb).

• <28-Sep-04>: The Train-sim.com library has Craig Walton's Mornington Tourist Railway (Australia) T-class loco No. 411, mtr_t411.zip (1.4Mb, 27-Sep-04). Those who like very large loads on their tracks will appreciate Pascal Grando's Wagon spécial pour transport d'alternateur de grande puissance, (1.5Mb, 20-Sep-04). Those trialling version 6 of Route Riter can now upgrade version 6.0.05 to version 6.1.16 with the latest EXE (1.5Mb, 25-Sep-04). Gaetan Belanger's public models can now be downloaded from esketcher.homeip.net/valleypass/.

• <27-Sep-04>: Tony Calorel has contributed more freight wagons in various company liveries at Train-sim.com, such as a Bon Ami Box Car, bonami.zip (585kb, 26-Sep-04), a brand name webTrainSim remembers from many years ago. There are two locos of note, SD70MAC No. 9920, bnsf9920.zip (1.9Mb, 26-Sep-04), and a Freight Australia H-class, aufah1.zip (2.2Mb, 26-Sep-04), the latter requiring James Brooks' low-nose T-class cab. webTrainSim has updated his Wupper 8 pre-activities page and German Railways small fixes page with more info.

• <26-Sep-04>: At Train-sim.com you'll find more freight wagons by Tony Calorel, such as his Pratt & Whitney boxcar, pratwhit.zip (458kb, 25-Sep-04). Bill Cline has many freight wagon contributions, too, such as his latest, Detroit & Mackinac box car, dm2825.zip (1.4Mb, 25-Sep-04). Jim Ward's Port Ogden & Northern route, version, 9, ponver9.zip (8.1Mb, 25-Sep-04), is also available; check this thread on the Train-sim.com forums for more information, and yes, it's only an 8Mb download! There's a thread running on the Train-sim.com forum with some info previewing Wupper 8. As well, you can get ahead with rolling stock downloads by checking webTrainSim's Wupper 8 pre-activities page and some tune-ups for various locos and trainsets.

• <25-Sep-04>: All the Cape Cod files now seem available at Train-sim.com, cape10a.zip (19Mb, 24-Sep-04) and cape10b.zip (15Mb, 24-Sep-04) being the latest. For any help with the route, see this thread on the Train-sim.com forum.

• <24-Sep-04>: TheTrain.de has some new North American rolling stock, including four Union Pacific GP40-2 locos and a set of seven Union Pacific boxcars. At Australian Add-ons for MSTS there's stage one of Paul Woozley's Illawarra route, AU_Illawarra_Stage1_MSTS1_Setup.exe (21Mb, 24-Sep-04). webTrainSim has been noting some fixes he's done (and trying to remember ones he did some months ago - a difficult task. Ed.) to various pieces of German Railways rolling stock in preparation for Wupper 8. You'll find his changes and tune ups under Small Fixes 16 & 17 (first part) and Small Fixes 16 & 17 (second part). You'll see here and there that he's got more to do.

• <23-Sep-04>: Ted Curphey's Railbox box cars, railbox1.zip (719kb, 22-Sep-04), are worth mentioning because Ted has been creative in letting us have a look through the side door into the interior of one of the wagons. Also at Train-sim.com is Juan Rivera's pair of BNSF SD40-2s, Numbers 7832 & 6378, 78326378.zip (4.3Mb, 22-Sep-04), which are a slight variation of detail from the normal. There are a couple more Cape Cod route files, cape2.zip (25Mb, 22-Sep-04) and cape6.zip (29.8Mb, 22-Sep-04). webTrainSim has listed the rolling stock he intends to use in his Wupper Express 8 activities. As well, there's a list of rolling stock which the Graphics15 team will use in their activities (as part of the route download).

• <22-Sep-04>: The Train-sim.com library has Bob Boudoin's latest physics for GE six-axle locos, v4_7ge6.zip (85kb, 21-Sep-04), more TTZX centrebeam flat wagons, ttzxcpr.zip (1.1Mb, 21-Sep-04), and three more files for the Cape Cod - The Bay Colony route: cape8.zip (25Mb, 21-Sep-04), cape9.zip (24Mb, 21-Sep-04) and cape11.zip (17Mb, 21-Sep-04). The Graphics15 team have released some preliminary information for their Wupper Express 8 route, in particular some rolling stock required for included activities. There are eight pieces listed on the FAQ (Fragen & Antworten) page and easily found. As for webTrainSim's activities for Wupper 8, he'll be using rolling stock from his Wupper 7 activities plus some extra material (he'll list it in a day or two). So, get ready for Wupper Express 8!

• <21-Sep-04>: John Bauckman continues to upload files for his Cape Cod - The Bay Colony route to the Train-sim.com library and new ones are cape3.zip (13Mb, 20-Sep-04), cape4.zip (22Mb, 20-Sep-04), cape5.zip (19Mb, 20-Sep-04) and cape7.zip (19Mb, 20-Sep-04). To orientate himself, webTrainSim looked at the MassGis map viewer and Go Cape Cod for some info about Cape Cod. Australian Add-ons for MSTS has Matt Austin's vintage Victorian Railways B class 2-4-0 steam locomotive, AU_vrOldB_MSTS1_Setup.exe (4.33Mb, 20-Sep-04), most appropriate with 2004 being the 150th year of railways in Victoria (Australia).

• <20-Sep-04>: The Train-sim.com library has a new route, Cape Cod - The Bay Colony (Massachusetts), cape1.zip (21.3Mb, 19-Sep-04), by John Bauckman, set around Provincetown and Buzzards Bay. Oops, cape1.zip is the first of the author's twelve files he's uploading to the library - watch this Train-sim.com forum thread for more info. For some background to Cape Cod, see Cape Cod Rails, especially the operation of the bridge at Buzzards Bay. Moving westwards, Bob Pickering has contributed a set of activities to run Union Pacific manifests on the Clinton Sub, csap.zip (633kb, 19-Sep-04).

• <19-Sep-04>: It was a bit too quiet yesterday but today Ted Curphey has contibuted more modern freight wagons to the Train-sim.com library: Cryo Reefers, cryo_ref.zip (528kb, 17-Sep-04), UP High Capacity Reefer, up_rf1.zip (248kb, 18-Sep-04), and TTZX Centerbeams, ttzx_cb.zip (588kb, 18-Sep-04). As well there are updated rolling stock collections by Dick Cowen and Marv Keur for the Canton: Canton Engine/Rolling Stock version 3A, ctnrov3a.zip (24.8Mb, 18-Sep-04), and Canton Engine/Rolling Stock version 3B, ctnrov3b.zip (24.2Mb, 18-Sep-04). Bruno Astorg (Microrail) has been releasing new models of Z5300s and R.I.O. sets over the past couple of weeks so keep an eye on his news page for more French rolling stock. The Czech Visiocina route has been extended with the Liptov (Ruzomberok - Východná) section (46Mb download from the author's site and you need the original route).

• <17-Sep-04>: A quiet day and webTrainSim will have to wait a bit longer for Wupper 8 - news from the Graphics15 team is that it should be available on October 9th or 10th. At Train-sim.com Ashley Ow has contributed a range of BNSF TOFCs (trailer on flat car) with different trailers, such as fltcargr.zip (302kb, 16-Sep-04).

• <16-Sep-04>: Australian Add-ons for MSTS has some Australian locos that have been updated to version 2, namely a fourteen-loco set of NSW Class 44s, AU_nsw44v2_MSTS1_Setup.exe (8.4Mb, 14-Sep-04), and a ten-loco pack of South Australian Class 930s, AU_sa930v2_MSTS1_Setup.exe (7.2Mb, 14-Sep-04). Both sets include driveable locos from either end (Number 2 end is the flat end of these loco types). You'll also need to download version 2 of the DL500 cab (4.74Mb) and the 44/442/930 Alco Sound Set.

• <15-Sep-04>: At Train-sim.com there's an update to the Clinton Sub route, cssigcfg.zip (15kb, 14-Sep-04), for those who want to use the replacement signal graphics in usa2sigr.zip (314kb, 12-Sep-04). Ted Curphey has contributed a pack of twelve BN flatcars, each with different loads, bn_flats.zip (864kb, 14-Sep-04). For those who want to get lots of info about German Railways, see www.fernbahn.de - the author has documents of passenger train consist formations, LZB signalling with cab photos, and electric loco technical specs.

• <14-Sep-04>: Jonathan Lewis and his Narrow Gauge Virtual Works team have another highly-detailed model, the Denver and Rio Grande Western K-27 No. 463 Mikado, drgw463.zip (10.6Mb, 13-Sep-04). K-27 No. 463 has been restored and there are many references available, including: Durango 1949 (photo), Cumbres 1995 (photo) and Operating Narrow Gauge Trains in Colorado.

• <13-Sep-04>: These are the new files at Train-sim.com that caught webTrainSim's eye: a BNSF High Capacity Reefer used for transporting processed potatoes, bnsf_rf1.zip (290kb, 12-Sep-04), two highly detailed Italian Railways steam locos by Piero Angeli, fs_gr905.zip (1.7Mb, 12-Sep-04) and fs_gr875.zip (744kb, 12-Sep-04), and Kevin Arceneaux's second pack of revised boxcar WAGon files from a couple of days ago, rboxwag2.zip (37kb, 10-Sep-04). Hank Sundermeyer has a set of signal graphics to replace those on the default USA2 (Marias) route, usa2sigr.zip (314kb, 12-Sep-04), and you might like to read his notes on this thread before installing.

• <12-Sep-04>: A very quiet day so here's some interesting reading:

• <11-Sep-04>: ALCO fans should be happy with some new locos added to the Train-sim.com library, including: Long Island Rail Road FA set, lirrfas1.zip (6.2Mb, 10-Sep-04), and Full Bucket Line Century C636, fbl_c636.zip (3Mb, 10-Sep-04). For those trialling the version 6 beta of Route Riter, especially trying Mike's extra feature to fix sound file errors reported by ConBuilder, should note a further update to version 6.0.9. So keep an eye on the forum threads at Train-sim and UKTrainsim, as well as checking for new updates at Mike's site.

• <10-Sep-04>: Wupper Express 8... bald, that is, soon. Mike Simpson has included a new feature in his beta version of Route Riter to fix sound errors found by ConBuilder. See the this post on the Train-sim forums and you can download version 6.0.8 beta of Route Riter here (note you need the full install of version 6.0.5 beta, RRit_6_0_05full.zip (9.97Mb, 29-Aug-04), downloadable from here). UKTrainsim has the latest version of ConBuilder, either as a full install, cb216.zip (4.1Mb, 09-Sep-04), or the update, cb216fix.zip (1.8Mb, 09-Sep-04). Bruno Astorg has version 4.1 of his R.I.O. 77 régionale STELYRAIL livrée rouge trainset, rio77_stelyrail_rouge.exe (15Mb, 09-Sep-04), on his R.I.O. page. The active content causing the information bar to pop up if you've got the XP service pack 2 installed is caused by the scripting used on the navigation page on the right to expand the headings/sub-headings as well as IE's inbuilt HTML+TIME code to fade in the welcome banner.

• <09-Sep-04>: Scott Miller has contributed his Ace It graphics tool as a replacement for MakeAce and MakeAcewin to Train-sim.com - it's in aceit.zip (2.2Mb, 08-Sep-04). ConBuilder has been upgraded to version 2.1.6 and you can download the full version, conbuilder2_1_6.zip (3.85Mb, 07-Sep-04), or just the EXE and CHM (help file) update, conbuilder2_1_6fix.zip (1.6Mb, 07-Sep-04), from the Australian Add-ons for MSTS home page (scroll down and look on the right for Utilities).

• <08-Sep-04>: Craig Hatlestad's Clinton Sub route can now be downloaded from the Train-sim.com library as one large file, upcsfull.zip (151Mb, 07-Sep-04), for those who were having problems with spanned zip files. As well, for those who are already running Clinton Sub, there's a patch to fix some signalling problems, upcsfix1.zip (1Mb, 07-Sep-04). For more info, browse the Clinton Sub thread on the Train-sim forums. The Obo Loco Catalogue - a great resource - is being updated and Rob is looking for suggestions. The Class 60 cab, 60cabV1.zip (3.1Mb, 06-Sep-04), by Kenji Kimura at UKTrainsim was mentioned yesterday - here's a schematic of the desk controls and layout and the Class 60 site has lots of info.

• <07-Sep-04>: Another quiet day. At Train-sim.com there are some route maps, Whitefish 5 Route Maps, wf5maps1.zip (986kb, 06-Sep-04), and Newark & Jersey City Route Map, njcrtmap.zip (1.8Mb, 06-Sep-04), the latter route released last year (see njc15.zip for the complete download of 67Mb, 09-Mar-03, or it's downloadable in smaller chunks). Marcel Despont has contributed more objects for route builders, such as his Oldtime Wooden Turntable, de_ottab.zip (700kb, 06-Sep-04). There's a Class 60 cab, 60cabV1.zip (3.1Mb, 06-Sep-04), by Kenji Kimura at UKTrainsim which is to his usual high standard.

• <06-Sep-04>: A quiet day apart from some new contributions at Trenomania.it: Pack di loco E645-646 (electric locos, 50Mb in 22 files!) and the version 3 E656-655 cab (4.07Mb, 05-Sep-04). The Graphics15 team are having a few problems with their site (guess who's waiting with baited breath for Wupper 8?) but Bruno Astorg's Microrail site is alive and well again so you can download his latest work, the Automotrices Z 5300: 5301 à 5361 version IDF équipée EAS trainset.

• <05-Sep-04>: At Train-sim.com there are a couple more collections of revised wagon files by Kevin Arceneaux: TOFCs, rtofcwag.zip (42kb, 04-Sep-04), and flat wagons, rflatwag.zip (27kb, 04-Sep-04). As well there's the Clinton Subdivision route, by Craig Hatlestad, consisting of ten files (each about 20Mb) for a full install, so see the readme in upcsdocs.zip (16kb, 04-Sep-04) for more info. The Route Riter version 6 beta has been updated v6.0.05beta, RRit_6_0_05exe.zip (EXE only) (799kb, 29-Aug-04). A new French route is the Paris Rive Gauche, available from the author's site, Prg1.exe (40Mb). Bruno Astorg has new trainsets Les Z 5300 SNCF IDF version EAS available but his MicroRail site was unavailable due to capacity problems when webTrainSim tried to visit this morning (webTrainSim time - Which is not very early. Ed.).

• <04-Sep-04>: A quieter day but some important and useful contributions from Kevin Arceneaux have appeared in the Train-sim.com library, namely physics updates to various freight wagons. Kevin has taken Bob Boudoin's latest brake physics, friction values from Joe Realmuto's FCalc 2 and updated coupler values. There are three downloads, coal wagons, rcoalwag.zip (2Mb, 03-Sep-04), hopper wagons, rchopwag.zip (529kb, 03-Sep-04) and box cars, rboxwags.zip (604kb, 03-Sep-04).

• <03-Sep-04>: The Frisco Fort Smith Subdivision route is back at in the Train-sim.com library, files friscofs.d01 (22.6Mb, 02-Sep-04) to friscofs.d05 (22.5Mb, 02-Sep-04), installer, friscofs.exe (22.6Mb, 02-Sep-04), and documentation, friscofs.zip (27kb, 02-Sep-04). Jim Ward has a generic low hood cab for those with the Raildriver control, rdcab.zip (886kb, 02-Sep-04); see his readme for more info. At UKTrainsim.com Steve Nicklin has a beta version of his Train Sim Consist Manager utility, TSCM1050.zip (2.7Mb, 02-Sep-04); here's more information and there's a thread, TSCM - Anybody interested?, on the UKTrainsim forums. Astorg Bruno has released two new R.I.B. 76 S.N.C.F. electric trainsets, one in Tranilien livery, the other in Ile de France. For those with XP SP2 installed (webTrainSim did the job yesterday), the active content that the information bar is complaining about is probably the HTML+TIME2 control that fades in (or used to fade in) the webTrainSim boxcar.

• <02-Sep-04>: Amicitreni.net has some new rolling stock, including electric loco, E444r 111 (13.1Mb, 01-Sep-04), and rail-grinder and tamper, P&T UNIMAT 08-275 (4.4Mb, 01-Sep-04). The Scottish Central route (complete with the Forth bridge) has been updated to version 1.1, SC1.1.zip (11.5Mb, 01-Sep-04), at UKTrainsim.com, and Paul Gausden's Southern Class O1 steam loco in Sunshine livery (1941-7), SRO1B.zip (1.6Mb, 01-Sep-04), is also available.

• <01-Sep-04>: Pascal Grando now has an 031-130TB Du Bousquet compound articulated steam loco in SNCF livery, 031-130T.zip (5Mb, 28-Aug-04), available from RailAtelier. The Train-sim.com library has a fix for the Frisco - Fort Smith Subdivision route, friscofx.zip (34.9Mb, 31-Aug-04), but only if you downloaded all the files when it was first released, otherwise you need to wait until new versions of all the files are uploaded to the library - see The fix for Frisco - Fort Smith is now available in the forums. Also, there's Chris Bogley's sketch map of the Whitefish 5 route, wf5map.zip (180kb, 31-Aug-04), and replacement woood and concrete sleepers (ties in other parts of the world) for any route, traktxtr.zip (1.7Mb, 31-Aug-04). A couple of new cabs have been released, one for the Class 171 Turbostar by Kenji Kimura, 171cabV1.zip (2.5Mb, 31-Aug-04), at UKTrainsim and a new one for Italian Railways E656 electric loco by Mauro Ciociola (4.1Mb, 31-Aug-04) at Amicitreni.net.
