Line news January, 2007
<28-Jan-2007>: Here are some new routes and other rolling stock that webDotTrainSim has been referred to or which has caught his eye:
- Firstly, the Puffing Billy in the '20s route for Australian and narrow gauge trainsimmers, AU_vicPBR1920_s1_MSTS1_Setup.exe, (33.5Mb, 26-Jan-2007) is available from Australian Addons for MSTS. There's a nA class 2-6-2T loco pack, AU_vrNA_MSTS1_Setup.exe (9.15Mb), and a set of carriages, AU_vrNGPass_MSTS1_Setup.exe (2.1Mb) for this route.
- Train-sim.com has the following:
- The New Zealand Raurimu Spiral Route in twelves files, the first being raurimu.zip (10Mb, 23-Jan-2007) and other files each of about 30Mb in size. rauricon.zip (118kb, 23-Jan-2007) contains a list of suitable consists. UKTrainSim.com also has this route in its library, along with trainsets.
- South African Northern Cape Route in files dek_1.zip (21Mb, 04-Jan-2007), dek_2.zip (60Mb, 04-Jan-2007) and dek_3.zip (17Mb, 04-Jan-2007). The famous Spoornet/SAR Elite Blue Train is available, too: sa-bluex.zip (8.5Mb, 15-Jan-2007).
- Italian route from Bastia To Ajaccio on Corsica, corsev2.zip, (233Mb, 27-Jan-2007). You can locate Bastia and Ajaccio on Live Maps.
- The Westvale Route has been well-received by steam enthusiasts - files are available for download from UKTrainSim.com.
- For those looking for MSTS updates from yonks ago, use this post on the Train-sim.com forums for reference. The link to the MSTS update files of December 2001 is towards the bottom of .
- It's worth mentioning that Paint.NET was updated yesterday to version 3 and one its new features is support for multi-document handling via tabs and a drop-down list from the toolbar. For photographers who want to change or edit the metadata info about their photos, either individually or as a batch, Microsoft's Photo Info Tool can do the job (after installation its functions become available on the right-click popup menu in Windows Explorer).
- From the Oops department: webDotTrainSim's freight activity, Freight service W-Langerfeld to DU-Rheinhausen, has a consist named g15_s-bahn_rot2.con, in which webDotTrainSim has his rolling stock in a different folder than what you may have. The easiest method to fix things is to allow Route Riter to do its stuff for your MSTS installation.
<23-Jan-2007>: He's finally caught up and uploaded his Freight service W-Langerfeld to DU-Rheinhausen freight activity. Well done, webDotTrainSim (if he can say so himself). This is one of those activities in which webDotTrainSim has tried to mix a freight in with lots of passenger trains and attempt to set up some holdups at reds. Well, one works out so expect to spend a few minutes at a red on the way into Hagen. For some reason MSTS halts the activity just after you stop for a checkup at DU-Rheinhausen instead of terminating at DU-Logport (a mystery that only MSTS in all its wisdom knows the reason for). On the first decent run-through, webDotTrainSim arrived at Dusseldorf at 0755 and at DU-Rheinhausen at 0833. Then on the last test, arrival at Dusseldorf was 0749 and DU-Rheinhausen 0829. When this sort of time difference occurs, you can see why webDotTrainSim wants better tools to help with creating activities (see his wishlist).
<22-Jan-2007>: The webDotTrainSim wishlist for the new MSTS has begun. Because he tends to spend so much time creating and testing activities for Wupper Express, webDotTrainSim's suggestions at the moment mainly centre around how the tools for activity creation need improving and what new tools are needed. Read through webDotTrainSim's suggestions and wishlist (the page is also linked to over there at top left in the Ops docs).
<20-Jan-2007>: All our Chtistmases have come at once with the announcement from Microsoft (January 19, 2007) in relation to their plans to re-develop Microsoft Train Simulator. To quote:
- Redmond, WA, January 19, 2007 – Following the successful release of Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the Aces Studio is using the same technology to develop a new version of Microsoft Train Simulator. Unrelated to our previous Train Simulator development efforts, this version will be an all-new product built on the Flight Simulator X platform, the culmination of 25 years of product development and technology.
Here are some links to threads on various forums in relation to the above:
Here are some sites for reference and, better, to subscribe to in your favorite feeds reader (e.g., IE 7) to make life much easier:
webDotTrainSim has got his Freight service W-Langerfeld to DU-Rheinhausen freight activity to a stage where it can be uploaded for you try. Having spent time detailing the above, that job will have to wait for a little while.
<01-Jan-2007>: We're into 2007. Happy New Year!
- webDotTrainSim's IC (RE1) Dortmund to Koln activity is ready for you to try. It would be worth jotting down the kilometre posts where you'll be crossing from the fast to slow tracks and vice versa at various times during your trip (they're in the description writeup on the link just mentioned).
